What am I missing??

I have a Dufour 29 that is new to me, and would like to mount a Manson Supreme on the bow (as it will not fit in the anchor locker with the rode). As a newbie, what am I missing on the bow now? Aside from lowering the anchor over the side and letting the chain feed through the roller I feel like I'm missing some of the functionality of this piece. What will I have to add to get it working the way I want?

It is only a guess - but you seem to be missing both the anchor and the chain!

Seriously, That ftting is not designed to hold the anchor in place, so you need to modify the bow roller so that it will hold the anchor in place. This has to be able to cope with the forces when the boat buries her nose into a wave and the water tries to rip the anchor right of the bow.

You also need a cable stopper - a little device that allows the chain to run under it, and when flipped over takes all the weight of the boat on the anchor. You also need another cleat aft of that stopper to provide a backstop to the stopper for overnight mooring security.

I suggest you go into a marina and find another boat that has the same type of anchor that you wish to fit, and look at their bow fitting.
