Simple enough."

Agreed for GPA. But a ranking of 1 in School is better than a ranking of 5....

Yes, I understood because I watched many of the videos. But the term "ranking" should not be used when referring to the ratings ("1" is not the rank"), especially in combination with "high" and "low".

Perhaps NO ONE is confused - - that's good -- but I wonder about someone in the future doing a search on this topic?

No criticism meant. Was only suggesting more clarity.

This is getting really silly! It says it’s a “rating” where 5 is best and 1 is worst right on his table. Additionally, the highest rated anchor is listed first, right where you’d expect it to be, and the others follow in rank order. I can’t imagine how he could possibly have been any more clear.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Rating 1-5 is not Rank 1-5 is not Quintile Rank (1-5).
I’ve not been confused at all. But I’ve seen plenty of very well educated bright quantitative analysts get confused.
In this case I think of it as stars as a previous poster said. Like hotels. I don’t feel great sleeping at a 1 star hotel.
As well, the bit where the legend says 1=low, 5=high is a clue. [emoji1]

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Not being a consummate linguist, I am guilty of being a little loose with my use of the words "rating" and "ranking".

To clarify:

In my charts, the numbers are COMPARISON between anchors that have so far been tested. The numbers are not an attempt to quantify HOW good or bad a result may be. For example, a group of anchors may all perform quite well in a particular test, yet the "least good" anchor will still receive a "1".

When a new anchor is tested and added to the chart, rankings for previous anchors may change.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

The ranking/rating is easy enough to understand - both in the videos as well as the chart, I don’t get what the fuss is all about. How easy should he make for people to understand?

Thanks for your contribution, Steve.

Thanks for your contribution, Steve.

Same, there was absolutely no confusion in the presentation of the original chart with its key.

Panope, you are setting a new standard for equipment testing, thank you so much.

Great Series Steve!

The Viking looks to be an excellent choice. If premature rusting were ever an issue, with no lead ballast, it would be pretty straightforward getting it re-galvanized.

Thank you for this invaluable testing.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Great test video, as always! Please let us know if Mantus has any thoughts on the possible defect. I could easily see it being something they didn't have on their quality control radar, and maybe will add and more tightly control.

In regards to the scores you gave it on the chart, does the Sandy Mud Deep Set and Veer scores reflect the starboard direction tests, the port direction tests, or what you think the average of both is? It seems to me that if the "flaw" is actually responsible for the issues in the starboard tests, and if it wasn't present, then the port direction tests should give it numbers of a 4 in the veer, and maybe even a 5 in the deep set.

At the beginning of the video, in the loose sand, you say in the voiceover that it performs as well as the other anchors you tested in the hold and veer test, but you gave it a Good in the veer unlike the Exlt you gave the Viking 20. Was there an observation or some detail that didn't make it into the video that rates it a step down in the veer?

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Maud,

Mantus has been in touch (post video) and will have a response soon.

For the Sandy Mud Veer, I used the Starboard direction for the rating.

For the loose sand, I felt the Viking had less motion (than the M2 during the veer, and similar motion during the strait line pull. I did not speak well for that part of the video. I probably should not place anything in those incomplete columns except for a "tested" indication. When I get the data for all the anchors, I will set down and do an accurate ranking.

Thanks Steve, I'm really interested to hear what they say.

That's fair, thanks for explaining.
