Cool Sunday gusts to ??? 28516

Haven't been able to find out wind speed but here in Bofort, NC we had some weather move through around 2 am. Surveying the damage in daylight, all but two boats in Town Creek dragged on the beach. Several actually disintegrated. This is an anchorage that the bums use. They are down there now hauling their crap back out where it was to await the next squall. Deep but soft mud is poor holding, and none of these boats are ever sailing again so you know their ground tackle is suspect at least. A few are liveaboards in the worst sense, recalling how all these anchoring/mooring regs got started back in Miami in the late 70s.

Whatever, the wind tore an 80' and a 60' boat off the dock at the toney Town Creek Marina. Lotta windage.

In Tayor Creek where the transients anchor, there were 3 boats on the beach. Probably just riding to one anchor.

My guess on speed would be 50-60+, probably low. Guess I'll be ordering a Manson Supreme soon.

The ugliest sight to me was the half dozen furled headsails ripped to shreds. Think I'm going to build a hoistable sock over mine. And use it.

May not have helped if you had near hurricane force winds, but was just reading this timely tip to prevent the headsails from being damaged:

FURLING HEADSAILS: Stowed Properly, Please

Cool Re: Sunday gusts to ??? 28516

Someone said a 94kts was clocked. That one missed me. Flipped a camper over and a large horsetrailer plus boats on beach. 10-20 was forecast with 20% chance of thundershowers. Hmmmm
