Re: Squatter On Your Mooring Ball ( Canada )

This forum posting has started me on a path of education, though not yet reeducation. I have learned I have a role as a vigilantly, boat ropin, commie hating, sailor, cowboy who doesn't like to share. This last part is very untrue, everybody was sharing my last girlfriend and as a show of generosity I moved on so there would be more to go around. She is looking tired.....

I'm also rich as defined by the tweaking junkies who hate my guts. (Reference deleted posts) This is a relief! Now as I flog my decrepit hack around town I can smile and wave assured everybody will know the Rolls is in the garage. As I'm a conscientious objector in the war on drugs I already knew the junkies hated my guts for not helping and the authorities are annoyed with me for not turning people in. Both sides are wrong on this one though I must say in no-mans land fast reflexes help because the shells come from both directions.

What I didn't count on was the pile of paper work required to research and fill out to become a registered mooring owner. To the 50 in WA who have done this I salute you. I'm still waiting on further DNR contact but I quickly found out everybody including me, which is rare these days, was too young to know what underlying laws on which things were based.

Upon making the transition from a territory to a state the original Federal charter granted jurisdiction to the state over its waters to the sea. There were some differences but this is how things remained until the Submerged Land Act of 1953 granted the states control of their coastal waters and seabeds. At 66 pages long I haven't begun to plumb the depths. As an American this means there will be 50 different State laws concerning moorings so do your own research, I have Washington.

Now for since this is a light hearted review here is the paranoid or paranormal for the twilight zone people. If the state wants to turn your land into a park other laws have sections concerning eminent domain and regulations concerning the appointment of a guardian ad litem to facilitate the transfer if you are conveniently found insane. Jumping up and down screaming "You Can't take my house and land! " works against you here.

Now truth is stranger than fiction or fishin but we know no-one would really plant any thing for a DEA seizure right? A small amount of collusion can produce a large result though this is more often found in the private sector concerning land and home sales. If the triads run Canada as posted earlier who runs us? (enter twilight zone music)

In short mooring your boat under the cover of darkness and fending off all comers is the easiest solution. To do your home work correctly you will need to GPS locate and compensate and survey off 2 points of land transferring the information to the appropriate charts and plats and fill out the required stack of forms remembering to contact the Dept of Fish and Wildlife and be prepared to touch base with the Army Corps of Engineers. I've worked with Fisheries and The Engineers before, they are great people and the DNR seem helpful and friendly but they are all very busy.

DNR says they don't really bother enforcing unless they get a lot of complaints so be kind to your neighbors. And remember-its your government, they are there to help you but as cowboys know-freedom takes eternal vigilance so dot the i's and cross the t's because it is important to help yourself so they don't help themselves!

Finally I really like Canada and think most of you have very good manners.

To the lovely Siren on Saturna- I had a great time! Next time I'm buying the dinner. Thank you for being brave enough for a cultural exchange with a rough looking, vigilante, commie hating , tweaker hated, sailor cowboy....the crew had to tie me to the mast when it was time to leave.

Gentlemen, we have all been small-minded fools.

"Used to be a marina could make a little profit then "

There's the answer. Post a rate card on the ball
"This mooring available for hire, $250 per day up to 100'OAL, payment required within one hour of arrival." then just file a lien on the boat for not paying.

Why get angry when you can feed the cruising kitty instead?

Sorry, I tried to tie together everything tossed at me in the thread and it resulted in an Odyssey! Some parts are informative in Washington but you'll have to tell everyone how it is in NC.

Re: Squatter On Your Mooring Ball ( Canada )

This could work for every body because no matter who owns the underwater land you own the mooring bouy and line they are tied to. The original poster in Canada could simply be retrieving "his" ball from the other boat when it is tied. This stuff is silly but isn't the need for most legislation? Now how do we get the 100 footers to tie up

Re: Squatter On Your Mooring Ball ( Canada )

I had a friend ask about some of the slightly outrageous parts of my epic post but it was to set up a bit of fun.
This thread has everything-an Odd at Sea story =Odyssey
It is strange, or Odd at SETI= Search for Extra Training and Information= say it fast and it covers the outrageous aspects of the posts= Audacity
So now we've got Odyssey Audacity.
Homer would be proud but I've got to cut back on those Dan Brown books...

Sounded like a rant fueled by weed. Usually the speaker thinks it vastly more interesting than others. And I speak from medicinal and/or anecdotal experience only. Don't mind me: I'm old therefore I gripe.

Re: Squatter On Your Mooring Ball ( Canada )

Don't touch the stuff...Just fun with puzzles on a ramboized thread. Sex helps sell stories and was about the only element left. If we take the initials from Odyssey and Audacity we have O and A. Throw in a nice anti drug/ drug war message for DARE and we can move on to Daring Odyssey Audacity a nicer rendition for DOA. The original poster encountered Danger On Arrival when he tried to leave his berth. I sail for schools and can pass any test. It would be a better world if people learned to use their consciousness before altering it
