I came across this post because I have the same question. Unfortunately I'm not quite satisfied with the answers. Here's the problem. I made 2 templates, one using the
Sailrite dimensions and the other using the pattern from this site
https://www.passionsmenu.com/images/...gjordan%20.pdf
Both give a cone with a 5" cone opening, however the
Sailrite cone has a 2" opening at the smaller end, while the other is only 1.5". I've found
references here and there that the small end should be 1.5", however Sailrite is a pretty trusted source for these kinds of projects.
Now you might say "1/2 inch, no big deal" however that's almost the double the size of the opening and it really shows when you mock up the cones next to each other.
On one hand, I don't want the opening too be too big, thus not slowing down the
boat enough. Conversely, if the hole is too small, maybe too much resistance and stress on the individual cones.
Does anyone know what Mr. Jordan himself suggested? Kinda want to fgure this out before I sew 110 cones!
Thanks
