season of amazement

It is that time of year up here in the Northeast when boats get hauled out and placed on dirt. This means one wanders around the boat yard checking out boat bottoms, props, keels, etc.

I call this the season of amazement as one wanders around looking and marvels ......... at the tiny little anchors on 90+% of boats.

And just a non scientific survey the most popular anchors are:
1 - CQR
2 - Delta
3 - Bruce & Danforth tie

90+% of those boats aren't probably serious cruisers.

Not saying those are poor performing anchors...they were just the most popular during the last several decades.

Re: season of amazement

A boat in Grenada was trying to offload a 35 pound CQR and couldn't do anything but put it up for free. And there were NO takers!

Re: season of amazement

You should walk the marinas and yards in some of the places where cruisers bunch up at certain times of year. CQR's and danforths are becoming rarer than hen's teeth. Deltas have a good showing, but bruces are also becoming rare, or secondary.

Like in MarkJ's case, here in the Rio Dulce there have been several people trying to sell CQR's (even 60lb'ers) for pennies at the swap meets. No one wants one.

Walking the docks here, the majority of anchors are rocna/supreme/spade/buegle followed by delta, then bruce. The few boats with cqr's look like they haven't left their slips in many years.

Re: season of amazement

I saw a couple of CQRs advertised on the forum that sat for a long time with no takers. One even offered with the rode and still no interest.

Speaking of which, anyone interested in a really nice 45lb CQR? I'll make you a deal. Trade even for a 60 lb Ultra.
