Sampson post

I have tried to find a neat way of cleating my nylon anchoring snubber to the sampson post at the front of my yacht, but everything I try looks messy and wrong. I want to be able to adjust length.
There are numerous articles on how to correctly attach rope to a normal horizontal cleat but nothing on the vertical sampson post.
The sampson post is about 20cm high with a diameter of 10cm. It has 2.5cm diam horizontal "Bits" that stick out about 7cm 2/3 of the way up.

Samson Post

If what you are describing is truly a samson post and you want to attach a snubber in a seamanlike fashion the end of the snubber should have a spliced eye that is just large enough to fit over the top of the post. The inside of the eye should have chaffe protection sewn in (Leather looks nice) as well as any other area that may rub through along the snubbers run. The end of the snubber thaT attaches to the chain should have a spliced eye with a heavy thimble. Attachment to the chain is as simple as using the largest, best quality shackle that will fit through the chain then securing through the snubbers thimble. Use a good quality brand three strand nylon, (Plenty of stretch) and plenty of chaffe gear.

A Gordian knot would look nice but, it might be difficult to loose in an emergency.
