Repair or Replace the Motor in My McMurray Anchor Windlass

I installed a McMurray anchor winch on my Hardin 45 back in 1984. Lately it failed and the motor may need rebuild or replacement. The windlass has been reliable and useful, despite its age. Does anyone know specs on it so that I could try to find a replacement motor, to buy new brushes for it, or to get it repaired? It looks like perhaps a starter motor from a beefy car/truck engine. Any help would be much appreciated!

What's the rating? What chain gypsy does it have? I can't find out anything about McMurray models so can't get any sense for what size anchor and chain it can pull. Interested - Ray 408-256-1290

Any good electric motor repair shop should be able to rebuild a dc motor. It is done all the time with automotive starters and alternators. They can source brushes, rebuild commutators and rewind rotors and stators. Shop around and save a ton of money over a new one.
