Rebuild or Replace Tigres

I did a stupid thing last night while attempting to disassemble my rather corroded Tigres windlass. Long story short is that the housing is trashed. I also discovered that the main central bronze gear that the motor gear drives on is rather worn. Im looking at the parts from IMTRA and its probably $1,375 in parts plus shipping. I then need to get the motor looked at as I think the brushes were sticking. Maybe the motor just needs some cleaning but a bench test and cleaning up will probably run $50-$100. So Im looking at $1,475 plus shipping to get my windlass basically rebuilt, assuming the motor is okay. I already bought seals and circlips and a few other parts.

Option two is to simply replace the unit. New Tigres can be had for $2,212 including shipping. Im pretty sure I know the answer here but it doesnt make it any easier to swallow.

Been there, done that.
No question, almost every part of a windlass is a wear part.
Gears, motor, shafts, seals, parts that guide the chain.
All wear out.
The fact that the main gear is worn out, proves that the unit has seen lots of use.
Get a new one and don't forget the switches and relays.

Yeah I guess thats what Im going to end up doing. Just pissed at myself for not being more patient. I was trying to remove the outer drums and decided it was a good idea to put the thing in the press... DOH! Should have used a puller and some heat. Just adds to the winter work list...
