Really Bad Anchoring Examples ... Pictures

This charter boat anchored to port of the Rassey, the guy's wife was driving the wind was around 15knots.

She took off at speed across the Rassey's bow finally colliding leaving a large scratch.

It took around 1 and a half hours to untangle.

At the time we had another one bearing down on us, they ultimately gave up.

The bay was large yet these people insist on dumping on top of others, the anchoring gear they are provided with is quite often crap BUT i don't think they are given any idea as to what to do or how to do it.

As charter fleets expand this issue is going to get worse....

Any others have pic's of such stuff ups? Post them maybe it will help some....

This is the sort of anchoring problem you most want to avoid. The impression I get reading this forum is that an anchor dragging is rare. Do not believe it. I see many,many boats each year that drag.
BTW this photo is in a non tidal area. This is not at low tide. This is how the yacht ended up, imagine the problems/ damage trying to get it off.

I have not got a similar photo of boat that dragged its anchor onto rocks/ coral, because by morning there is usually not much left.

Get some good anchoring gear.

Is it normal to put out your fenders prior to anchoring? Have I been doing it wrong and am "that boat"?

Here's a muppet chater boat that tried to anchor next to me yesterday. Before he even dropped it, I called over and said he was too close but he 'knew best'. Once he'd started that swing and only missed the other boat by a matter of feet, he moved.

Here is a dingy anchor to shore that I witnessed last week.
Really, do you really think that flippin shoe will hold you’re dingy when the tide comes in?

you're kidding right????? no one would really do such a thing as believing a shoe was a good anchor, even for a dinghy

heard a funny supposedly true charter/anchor story...

two days into their week long charter the charterers call the company and say "can you bring us some more anchors we allready used the first two"

I usually use Rocna, oops, Rockport, hiking boots using a Bahamian moor.

I just us one of these. For $25 you can save your $3,500 dingy.
Cheap insurance and just a bit better than a shoe or two.

Heck a small rock or a chunk of dead coral would make better anchor the a shoe LOL, but maybe he has a anchor under it and the shoe is just the marker for it !! who knows ?

The boot is funny, but when you pull your dingy ashore it's important to tie it to something ( not a shoe please). This shows your dingy has not been just washed up on the beach.
So even if it's well above high tide with no danger of being washed away I always tie it up something.
A tree or big rock are ideal, but if these are not availabe a stick shoved in the sand, won't hold the dingy, but tells anyone that looks that it has not just been abandoned or washed ashore.
