Re-Galvanizing Delta Anchor

Hi folks.

Anyone think that re-galvanizing a Delta (genuine Lewmar) is a BAD idea ?

Re: Re-galvanizing Delta Anchor

Duncan, I see no reason why it would be a bad idea. We have not used the Delta on our boats, but had both a CQR 35 and 45 re-galvanized. It was a lot cheaper than a new anchor and the galvanizing lasted just as long as the original. Chuck

Get it hot galvanized. It will last much longer.

Re: Re-galvanizing Delta Anchor

Thanks Dave / Chuck.

Wasn't sure if there was any lead balast in the point on a delta, but I guess even if there is, it should remain in place.

The Delta™ anchor leads the way in
innovative anchor engineering. The high
grade manganese steel used in the
construction of the Delta™ anchor gives it
maximum tensile strength. Its unique shank
profile and ballasted tip make the Delta™
anchor self launching. The low centre of
gravity and self-righting geometry ensure
that Delta™ anchor will set immediately.
Theres a big chunk of "something" there
It could just be more steel.

Re: Re-galvanizing Delta Anchor

Haven't seen one with lead in it for years. The nose is a cast lump on the bigger ones, fabricated on the smaller ones. Which may, he says without knowing for sure and thinking about it just this second, have lead in it. It's sealed so if you heat it it can't pour out anyway.

That quote is somewhat out of date. As is the 'innovative' comment and the unique shank comment. The Delta shank has obviously just been copied from the Rocna

Re: Re-galvanizing Delta Anchor

Re-galvanizing usually requires minumum weight and you may need 10 other people that need their anchor galvanized.

There is actually a much better method, Thermal Spray it with Zinc/Aluminum. It last longer than regalvanizing with no minimum weight. If you have an anchor with lead in it, thermal spray will not melt it.
