I just bought a
boat that has a spade
anchor. Obviously, I've heard almost nothing bad about this
anchor, and I've read in multiple places that the bolt holding the shank and fluke together doesn't take any of the load. I guess I believe this, since everyone says it, but when I assembled it after the
purchase (the seller had put the original ss bruce on it for the
sale, since it looked nicer), I had a hard time seeing how the bolt does not take most of the load. There is a lot of fore/aft play in the shank/fluke connection. Is it the way that the wedge shaped shank jams into the fluke slot that takes the load? Can somebody point me at a diagram, pictures, or video that visually explains it? Thanks!
