Old parachute as a deck tarpaulin?

Hi Everybody!

I'll be leaving my boat on a mooring buoy for prolonged periods and I was thinking about making a large tent for covering the essential parts of the deck, including the entire cockpit. I have an old parachute canopy lying around which would be the perfect size. But...

- does it actually make good sense to use such tent? It would increase the windage of the boat greatly and suffer a lot of tension from wind gusts.

- would orange-coloured nylon survive more than a month in full sunlight and seawater spray..?

What do you think? Is it worth the effort? What is your experience with boats staying in protected anchorages?
