Re: Octopus Verses Rocna.

Noelex, undesirable effect or not on your roctapie's holding, you state the anchor was set for a few days and each time you dive he comes out to greet you, very friendly guy, thingy that puzzles me is all of his shells are in the one spot, as if the anchor is not hooked to a boat?

Point being with tide wind or current there is no circular pattern from anchor movement, there fore I would not so easily say your little friend has a undesirable holding effect on your roctapi?

Regards Rex.

Re: Octopus Verses Rocna.

The anchor is well and truly attached to The boat. I hope

Most anchors, when set will not begin to rotate until you get about 20-30 knots of wind from a new direction. (Or a current/ wind combination with the same force)

People imagine the anchor rotating every time the wind, or tide changes, but this does not happen with a set anchor.

My anchor is on big side so it takes about 30k for it to start to rotate around to new position. Under this level of wind it does not move from its initial position and appearance, no matter what the direction of pull.

At about this wind level, or perhaps a bit higher (say 35k )as well as rotating (if the direction of pull is different) it will also start to burry deeper than the set achieved under engine alone.

While anchored here the wind has been from almost every direction, but has only been light so the anchor has not changed moved, or rotated. (Other than the gradual excavation that is occurring under the fluke and the steady accumulation of shells and stones courtesy of my visitor)

Re: Octopus Verses Rocna.

Buy yourself a 45kg Ultra anchor and you won't be having these issues with the roll bar slowing you down. By now, you'd be dug in half way to China... leaving the octopus way behind.

Re: Octopus Verses Rocna.

you should try and take a photo a day... get a nice timeline of it all.

BEST anchor thread ever!

Maybe the suction cups of the little guy/gal will help keep the anchor from slipping.. sort of like holding onto the bed sheets.

Look at the bright side, at least you'll never be hungry as long as you remain anchored in that area! Just drop an anchor and go get dinner in an hour or two!

atoll... Could this tip actually be a side effect from having said newly acquired spare cork, and no further need for it???

Mayhaps 'tis the cook who is more tender!

adding wine to the chef, and the sauce will improve things as well!

the tip on putting a cork in the sauce works extremly well, and i would never have belived it untill i experinced it first hand with some italian friends who had just come back from fishing with fresh octopus, still alive.

after gutting, the octopus went straight to the pot,no beating on the dock as the greeks do.

result! wonderfully tender octopus, cooked in tomatoe, onion, garlic, olive oil and oreganum sauce with a dash of red wine.......and the cork!,removed before serving

Re: Octopus Verses Rocna.

Soo, the holding power of the mighty Rocna is contingent on the activities of sea life? Is this a marine conspiracy to make Rocna look bad? Perhaps it is a feature, depending on where you may be, the anchor will automatically get you dinner? What if lobster or octopus is not in season? Could one be arrested and incarcerated for out of season fishing just as a result of anchoring? All questions to answer before acquiring said anchor.

Fantastic thread.
Good marketing material for the Rocna people.
And now we have a new dish by Atoll - Octopus a la Rocna in Tomoate Sauce - hmm yummy.

Good thread.
I just hope the animal rights people don't get wind of this.....you won't be able to pull up your anchor because you would be disturbing the habitat of the critters....Aargh
