North Star CQR

I have a 42' ketch that has two 35# CQR anchors installed. I want to increase them to 45# CQR's. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or opinions of the CQR's from North Star marine. The price is very low so I'm a little leary. Any help would be great. Cheers, JC

From looking at their ad the reason for the low price is that they are not CQRs, they are CQR type imitations. They may be good, they may be bad. My personal experience has led me to steer clear of any anchor imitations regardless of style. If you research some of the threads on this site regarding the newer designs you might change your mind about what type of anchor you want anyway.

Why use two identical anchors?

Yea I see they are knockoffs. The hinge is different from a CQR (rotated 90deg). In a perfect world I would have a CQR and probably a Claw type anchor. I've had good luck with this combo. On my Vagabond 42 I had a 35# CQR and a #35 Claw (Bruce knockoff). 35# is a bit small for my boat (42' & 29000#) These 2 anchors destroyed my Bowsprit and damaged my Bobstay and Whisker stays. The #35 CQR rested too high up in the anchor platform and the one side rubbed into the side of the bowsprit and the other side chafed into the Whisker stay. The Claw anchor either got hung up on the Bobstay or dug inself into the bottom of the Bowsprit. The platform seem to be perfect for two 45# CQR's. I have thought of changing the design of the anchor plarform but there is just no room to clear the Whisker stays without going outside them which would look goofy.

I have a 26 lb. norestar (?) cqr clone on my 34 Irwin. Never drug anchor, works like a charm. However, it is not cosmetically appealing. It isn't as pretty as the picture.

This has been an unfortunate sentiment for about 30 years.
