Muir HYDRAULIC Windlass

Anyone ever heard of a Muir Cheetah HR2500 in HYDRAULIC only?
Hydraulic cheetah HR2500 for sale
Nothing on the Muir site
Compact 2500
Cant find anything on-line either

The seller is insistent that it is though, reckons I'd need a remote reservoir and pump to run it.

Re: Muir HYDRAULIC Windlass

Muir make some great anchor windlasses. They are a fairly small company that is used to doing custom jobs for large superyachts etc.
If you asked them make a particular windlass as hydraulic my guess is they would do it, even if it was not a standard offering. I suspect this is probably what was originally done. If so it should be a great windlass, but there is always he possibility it was a backyard conversion, in which case the engineering would be suspect.
Muir have good customer service. You will get an answer from an engineer rather than a salesman, so I would contact them directly.

Re: Muir HYDRAULIC Windlass

You can convert almost any winch to hydraulic and many do quite often but the winch dudes don't seem to sell any 'off the shelf' all ready to go. From what I've seen most seem to out-source the conversions.

I think I'd be thinking finding a hydraulic specialist before a winch maker if sussing pumps etc.

So yes it is possible to get a hydraulic Cheetah.

Re: Muir HYDRAULIC Windlass

This appears to be the Muir Hydraulic setup needed in addition to the windlass

Plenty of expense there.

Twas a bummer, if I could have jagged an electric 2500 cheetah for $1200 I would have been all over it and then on sold my Maxwell 1500

Re: Muir HYDRAULIC Windlass

Muir are just up the road, they make a lot of custom units for fishing and commercial boats.
They are happy to take a phone call, good guys, really know their business.
I suspect most of the hydraulic units are driven from a pump on the main engine.

you could run a pump off the front of one of your engines, you would still needa tank and the solenoids,
pretty standard setup on any fishing boat, pto driven pumps are about £2-300 quid in the uk
