Mooring In South Cal

Does anyone have any recommendation for a mooring location in in Los Angeles, Long Beach or San Pedro area? and any concern I should have for mooring while away for weeks at a time?

Only moorings available in that area I'm aware of are Belmont Moorings, $1/ft. 15 day limit.

Otherwise Newport Beach and San Diego have some moorings, check the ads and the "harbor Guide" edition of "the Log", our local boating newspaper.

Traumatha1, when you say moorings are you meaning mooring balls or a slip in which to moor your boat. The suggestion of checking The Log for moorings is good. There aren’t many places with mooring balls in the area. If you are looking for a slip check with Cabrillo Way Marina in San Pedro, the City Of Long Beach Marina for either Downtown Shoreline or Alamitos Bay Marina, or with the Newport Beach Harbor Department. Once in a rare while there are listing on Craigslist for private slips.

Well, I'm asking about a mooring because a slip is not within my budget but if I can a get a slip for a reasonable rate, I'm open to it as well. I've a 34' Gemini, davit comes out to 37', beam is 14'. I was looking at the Log, it seems to be a useful source. Thank you very much. I'm still open to any other suggestions. Thank you all.

You might try Al Larsons Marina (Al Larsons Boat Shop) in San Pedro. I think they have some moorings. Cheap but not too attractive.

Re: Mooring In South Cal

There is basically no such thing as a long term mooring ball anywhere close to L.A. Closest would be San Diego, there are mooring fields with reasonable rates, IF AND WHEN there are any available.

To keep a boat your size in the L.A. area, the most affordable will probably be in Wilmington for about $450 (plus $250 if liveaboard). That's if they can accommodate your beam. Definitely the lowest slip rates in So Cal.
