Define crazy. 60%? Now that would work.

I have been trying to convince the wife to take a weekend off from working on the boat so we can do the St Pete show and saving on an anchor would help. Otherwise I will probable be painting or rebedding windows.

I posted once before that the preventer nut on my 65lb boss sheared off. I did not see it happen but strongly suspect it slammed against the roller side plate on the way up.

In general I absolutely love my boss. Coming from a 45lb Chinese CQR on a Passport 42 maybe that's not saying much.

I'll say it again, holy crap! $17.00 per pound for a steel anchor? Galvanized? The Roncas don't even have a bottle opener incorporated into the design. Did it come in a velvet lined box?

Just kidding about the velvet lined box. I actually think the Rocna is a generally good anchor design. I am sure you will be happy with it.

As for the bottle opener I assume they include one free with your purchase, no?

And yet at least two manufacturers say their non roll bar anchors are at least the equal if not better than their roll bar varieties?

I told my wife it came with one.....just so she wouldn't use ME as the anchor.

Must have been defective. (I worry about that happening to the tab on my D-shackle pin that attaches my anchor, and it never has. But I've slammed it more than once despite efforts to be cautious about the way it enters the roller. I check it each time it comes aboard, before re-launch. Lose than pin and I might lose the boat. A nut sticks out less than a D-shackle pin.)

Well...my anchor came...it's HUGE!!! I'm Soooo happy with that. I'll sleep like a baby. Only one question I have to ask myself: Will my windlass actually lift that thing?!

Re: Mantus Anchor or Rocna ?

Sleep well!! The only time (in many hundred anchorings) our 40kg Rocna failed to dig and hold immediately was when it picked up a large concrete block on its fluke just off the USCG station in Cape May.

Re: Mantus Anchor or Rocna ?

Ok I read your previous post for you order to 88 pounder for your 25 times our baby. I bought the 105 pound Manish for my 40000 pounds our boat and yes it is very big

I noticed one of the things that rocna recommends is not to oversize the anchor as they have already taken that into consideration. Looking at their sizing charts I'm well within range. Compared to what I have now, this anchor probably doesn't even have to set and it will hold me in place! lol

Re: Mantus Anchor or Rocna ?

No body that I saw!!! Mind you the current there is pretty strong!

Our Rocna is a 40kg (88lb) with about 350ft of BBB 3/8 chain. I usually go heavy with scope, but we have weathered some good blows with that set-up. Our boat is a Selene 47 (50ft overall) with approx. 65,000lb displacement.

Wow eightwonder, how bigs your boat? That's a big anchor. My manual windlass (right arm, left arm, back) cringed when i saw it :-)

Re: Mantus Anchor or Rocna ?

I just upgraded my 55 lb Delta to an 85 lb Mantus (from the St. Pete Show). It is assembled and soon to be added to 200' of 3/8" G4 HT Chain. I will definitely be sleeping more securely at night. (I have a 42' Lagoon.)
