Lofrans Royal - Anchor stopper

We have a Lofrans Royal windlass.

There is a metal bracket which engages with notches in the gypsy - but when engaged it stops the windlass from coming in?!?!?!

Shouldn't it be designed to stop the windlass from going out if the clutch fails?

Confused.

Interesting. It doesn't appear in the pics on the dealership site. Although the mount is still in the casting. I wonder if it could be something to do with being able to use the rope capstan seperate from the gypsy?

It’s so you can lock the gypsy so you can release the clutch to drop the anchor
