Lofrans lower part stuck in the main axle

Hello, the motor cover of my Lofrans is rusty and I'd like to paint it. However, I cannnot detouch the angle gear-motor unit from the windlass. I suspect the angle gear has stuck during 10 years to the main axle.

Any ideas how to make it loose?

Warming - no, only angle gear would be heated. Penetrating oil? won't go there from below. From above? bearings cut the way. Hammering? no please.

Re: Lofrans lower part stuck in the main axle

Hello "tuomas"

If it is a vertical type Airon or Leopard the only solution is to remove all the top part, remove the seal into the base, remove the inner clip on the shaft and then after unscrew the 4 nuts under the deck, hit with a plastic hammer the top of the main-shaft in order to leave drop down into the chain locker the combo gearbox+main-shaft.

Later in a mechanical shop you may try to remove the shaft from the gearbox but if this operation is unsuccessful you have to open the gearbox and change the shaft and the main gear. (worst case scenario)

It will be useful to have a picture of the actual windlass conditions so it would be great to advise our customer to contact the customer support through our website!

Best Regards,

Lofrans Team
