It was fabricated by a metal shop at Bert Jabins' Yacht Yard in Annapolis back in 2010.

When we purchased Beausoleil in 2006, she had two anchor rollers up on the pulpit platform, and they only would accommodate a 45lb CQR, or perhaps a Delta. After upgrading to a 80lb Manson Supreme main anchor and a Fortress Guardian G-55 as a backup, we had to do this. The Manson self-launches like a charm. The only drawback is that when using the Manson's "rock slot", I have to help it over the roller...

Do you have short bulwark all around or is that a step down on the bow just forward of the windlass? If so, do you have large drain holes for green water?

Yes and yes. The Formosa 51 has an anchor pit at the bow which is about 10" deep, with scuppers aft (port and starboard sides), as well as openings forward on either side of the bow sprit.

I looked up a Kaufman 47[listed in your profile as your vessel...] and found this photo in a Yachtworld listing:



My vessel is similarly sized [43' LOD; 50' OAL; 44k lbs cruising weight. 2 bow anchors: 80# Supermax and 60# CQR- both came with the boat...] I have a blog post about replacing the windlass and chain in May-2015 that includes lots of detailed photos if that is of interest.

For a relatively easy way to build a roller, you can pick up some aluminum or stainless U-channel (or box beam section), & cut it to fit the space on your stem. Adding an off the shelf roller, once you have things trimmed down properly. Ditto on adding a bail or crosspin (fixed or removable) to things.
And of course, you'll want to "ease" the edges of any cuts which you make in the metal. But it's a fairly KISS way to make a custom roller, cheap.

The only real drawbacks being that such a setup doesn't have side rollers, for when you're rode is pulling at extreme sideways angles. Though you can have such features added, by a good metal fabricator. That, or just have some round tubing welded in place, for nice smooth corners in those locations.

With a long bow spirit the lead forward keeps it well clear of the bow.
