I have a
Lagoon 421 with a Quick 1000W Aleph
anchor winch in which the
gearbox spur
gear failed after 2-1/2 years of use. Quick have a 3 year warranty which they have failed to honor claiming I have misused the winch! Given I have always used the bridal and a
safety hook find that hard to understand.
On further investigation of my system I found that
Lagoon have fitted a 100A Type D Hydro
electric breaker instead of the 80A breaker recommended by Quick. Since the
motor on both the 1000W and 1500W
winch is the same (except the 1500W version has a bigger gearbox) I believe the failure is due to the
motor applying too much torque when the
anchor stops on the bolster, leading to a fatigue failure of the spur
gear (always stops in the same position)
My question to the forum is has any other
Lagoon 420 or 421 owner seen the same problem or has anyone out there got any
advice. If you have a
Lagoon 420 could you tell me what anchor winch you have fitted?
I am particularly disappointed by Quick's response after making a big deal on their three year warranty and Lagoon's lack of help in resolving this issue
