The thimble at the bitter end of my spare anchor's 5/8" nylon
rode had corroded and needed to be replaced. I bought a
stainless steel gusseted tubular thimble to take its place and set to
work. When I made the second round of buries, the three strands in the standing part kinked. Try as I might, I could not coax them back into their proper twisted configuration. I undid the partially completed splice, loaded it up with my
electric anchor winch, and tried to relay the
rope, but that did nothing.
Is there some way to restore the
rope to its normal twisted configuration?
If I cut the damaged section off and start again, how do I keep the strands from twisting again?
