The thimble at the bitter end of my spare anchor's 5/8" nylon rode
had corroded and needed to be replaced. I bought a stainless steel
gusseted tubular thimble to take its place and set to work
. When I made the second round of buries, the three strands in the standing part kinked. Try as I might, I could not coax them back into their proper twisted configuration. I undid the partially completed splice, loaded it up with my electric anchor winch
, and tried to relay the rope
, but that did nothing.
Is there some way to restore the rope
to its normal twisted configuration?
If I cut the damaged section off and start again, how do I keep the strands from twisting again?
