I'm looking for a dual gypsy head windless
I'm searching for a dual gypsy head windless for my Westsail.
I have a manual Tigres now that has a chain/rode head on one side, and bare drum on the other.
I have two anchors, but always have to do one by hand.
I want an electric windless with gypsy heads on both sides, so I can select which anchor I want to use by releasing the clutch.
Anyone know of one that is made that is not $5k?

Unfortunately, those are pretty rare outside of large, expensive windlasses. You might be better off getting a smaller windlass without the rope drum (just the gypsy) and simply putting 2 of them next to each other.

Is it too much trouble to manually swap which chain is on the gypsy head? Or is that what you're saying you are currently doing?

That wouldn't work well in a lot of setups as you'd have to feed both rodes down 1 hole into the locker, which is a recipe for tangling, jamming, etc.

I have one on my boat, it is a Lofrans Falkon. I ordered it with 2 different sized gypsies because I have different sized chain for each of my bow anchors (different weights). I also ordered it to have an additional rope winch.

Thats basally what I want!
I'm talking with Lofrans over e-mail because they are based in France.
Do you recall what it cost?

Yes that would be a problem - you'd have to have a divider wall directly under the outfeed of the gypsy to separate the chain, and likely the gypsy high enough above the divider such that the chain doesn't flop over to the wrong side.
Or maybe the wall needs to be close to the gypsy with enough "hang down" on its appropriate side to weight the chain and pull it where it belongs.
I think the hardest part is man-handling nasty chain to swap them out

Yes, Ocean Roads does have a point. As it happens, I have a divided anchor locker. Each chain drops into its own space. My set-up was installed so that the chains drop directly into the deepest part of the locker. It is also important, for a windlass of this strength, to install additional support from below to keep the windlass from pulling up the deck.

Why?
Why is it usually smaller sailing boats wanting weird things and multiple anchors?
Instead of carrying two anchors on the bow why not just get one bigger one that works?

Re: I'm looking for a dual gypsy head windless
I have a 28 Westsail. Has two anchors on pulpit.
I've had times where I needed one anchor vs the other for where we cruise.
Right now I have a manual windlass. I want to go powered, and figure get one that does it all.

But none of that really answers the question as to why
I have been on the water for 40+ years in sail and power in size up to what we have now and at no stage have I carried 2 on the bow or wished for 2 on the bow even though we are set up for it with dual wheel windlass and split locker
All I ever wanted was one that actually worked and these days with new and improved design that's pretty simple to achieve.

Re: I'm looking for a dual gypsy head windless
If I could find one anchor that works for all conditions I cruise in, I'd happily go to one anchor on the bow.

Re: I'm looking for a dual gypsy head windless
Well, to start with, what 2 anchors are you using currently? And what range of conditions do you typically encounter?
