If You Could Choose Only One Anchor for Cruising Round the World

san diego is a lot of fun for anchoring as currents are wicked there-- i used cqr nicely there when i anchored in sd bay. no problem, no muss no fuss-- didnt matter what kind of boat-- all had cqr and ALL held fast.

No one cruises with only one anchor and as others have mentioned, I use different anchors in different conditions. One plow, one Rocna, will be adding one Fortress.

Can't afford any of the new anchors. Don't think I'd bother to change out even if I could, as yet don't feel the need.
Carrying a 35# Lewmar Quick Set and will be adding a 44# one as soon as I can find one cheap. Also have a 47# Northhill (excellent rock and weed... like the yachtsman) and a 22# Danforth.

butler--is 22 pound danforth big enough for your heavy boat?? i woulo dgo 30 pound for safety and security-- winds get big out here.....

Use it when forced to double up by the authoratayz. Something off the stern that is just effective enough to keep them happy but quick and easy to retrieve.

If I had to choose from one of my exisitng anchors... I would choose the Northill but then I don't have as much experience a some here.

havent found force to double up--- havent been advised to relocate by authorities-- but i was advised that old harbor is no place to be in a good breeze.....and some other anchorages are same.....after last night's wind and tboomer storm, i can see why........hoooyaahh-- ye might just wanna consider a sliightly larger danforth for doubling as primary may fail in some a dis stufff.... seriously.

We planned on printing out EVERY post on anchors ever made on CF and laminating them into a solid hunk and anchoring with that. But we made a trial anchor for the dingy and discovered the pages were so full of hot air it FLOATED....

Back to searchin fer the perfect anchor....

But of course it floated! You need to compress all the hot air into a plasma stream to etch the list of anchor posts into a titanium-alloy billet, before having Kiwi master sculptors CNC-massage it into a finely electropolished blob of perfection

I voted "other". Partly because I hate having just one anchor; I only have one now, and it sucks <things I can't say in polite company>. And partly because, for a given amount of money, I suspect I could get a fair bit more holding power with a MIG torch and a few dozen kilos of steel than I would with the same wad of cash at the chandler's.

marshmat--i find my newly purchased anchors used for a decent price--look hard and find what ye want---is out there---i found danforth 30 pounds for 40 dollars, i found genyooowine bruce 30 kg for 200 dollars and have seen anther same weight for 140....many out there--keep eyes open and always look. windlassses also---i found used one manual for good price--is installed on my bow .. works great..love it !!!!
stuffis out there--gotta keep eyes open .. is better than chandlery as those are waaay over the top price wise.

I would bet that if you did a poll of what you currently have for your primary anchor it would pretty much match the poll results on this thread.

After all if you don't like what you using and don't change it, what are you sayng about yourslf?
