Help Me Identify My Anchor Winch

Two years ago, I bought an Alberg 35 which I believe was built in 1965, purchased and sailed out of Chicago, brought to Baltimore by a previous owner who then sold it to he previous owner from whom I adopted it.

She has a bronze anchor winch and try as I might, I can't find any identifying information on it. I'd like to see if I can find some information about service and so on as this summer I plan to learn to anchor the boat. Any help gladly appreciated.

It's a Plath...

www.rcplathcompany.com

Still in business...

ABI made a similar looking manual windlass but it had a handwheel.

Plath does not have the integral chainpipe.

RC Plath Windlass Photo Gallery

It is probably an ABI, Chinese copy of the Plath which was a relabeled Albina. Look at the end of the rope drum, there is usually a little brass tag riveted there with an ID.

Nice bulletproof windlass. I just disassembled and redid my Albina, works like a champ now. Built prior to 1969.

Could well be Sanibel,

1965...A bit before my relationship with ABI started in 1984. In any case, Plath will make parts for ABI...

Re: Help Me Identify My Anchor Winch

Plath bought the Albina Machinery Co. in 1965 and the basic winch was expanded on. They can be retrofitted with wildcats and drums on either side or both sides.
They will rebuild, etc.

I have a #4 that came with the boat. I bought a new wildcat. Mine was worn out and I thought I would have to weld it up until I found out about Plath.

Did you find a manual for it or a diagram of the parts?

If it's ABI, I doubt they changed much...

Far Reach Voyages Home Page

Helped me get the nerve to take it apart. Really simple. There are two holes on the bottom (shown) that have set screws (not mentioned) that hold the shafts in. Allen head on mine, 1/4"-20 thread, had to drill them out.
If anything is stuck, heat it with a torch. There are no plastic parts to melt. No springs to break or jump out.
