Ground tackle review/questions Alberg 30

Hi,
So I’m currently in Northeast Florida heading south and to the Caribbean in a few weeks. My current ground tackle for the bow is a 10 kg lewmar delta and a small bow roller. I plan on snubbing so I’m not too concerned about how roller size.

So my question is has anyone used this anchor as their main on a similar vessel. I am loaded for cruising so figure 11,000 total displacement. Out of caution I recently purchased a 15k 35 lb lewmar delta and beefy bow roller. I was going to replace as the main. Sizing it up it seems much to oversized for my bow, plus I would have to cut out toe rail to install. I would still plan on keeping the 35 aboard as a storm anchor but I guess I’d like to know what others think. Keep the 10kg as main and 15kg as storm or 15kg as main. I will be aboard for the foreseeable future and plan on solely anchoring making limited use of marinas/slips etc.

I understand that a new gen anchor would be ideal but that setup is out of the budget for the time being.

I used a 25 lb CQR on my Alberg 30 for the 10 years I owned her. Drug a couple times when I had inadequate rode out. No such thing as too much chain. Incidentally a friend circumnavigated in his A-30 1975-1977.

I used a 20 lb Bruce for years before I upgraded to a 35lb mantus. Never had an issue with either, I suspect the delta will be just fine. I’ll grab a pic of my bow roller later.

The smaller anchor would probably be adequate but the larger would give you a lot of peace of mind. Cruising you'll be relying on the anchor 24/7/365 and it's nice to have something a little bigger. On the other hand, hauling up a 35# anchor with no windlass will be a chore.

That dinky anchor roller looks like it would collapse at the first sign of a load. Can you fit the larger roller in its place?? From the picture looks like it would fit, but just barely, on the stem casting with a block of wood under the aft end is the way I'd go if there is enough room for the fasteners at the bow.

On our Bristol 29.9 that we full time cruise on, we use a #15 Rocna, which is 33 pounds, attached to one hundred and twenty five feet of 5/16 chain, and an additional one hundred plus feet of eight plate, our anchor is one size up from Rocnas recommendation, a bit of overkill is good for your ground tackle, we have been at anchor in up to Fifty five knot winds and have not budged, our bow roller is original equipment, and is a quite stout bit of stainless steel, upgrading your roller would be a very good investment, seeing that your well being will rely on it. I would highly recommend any of the new generation anchors if your going to be living on the hook, they work real well, not jmo.

Nice, I have been out a month and a half and the 35# has done just fine. A-30 is definitely a stout little boat. The proven solo circumnavigations are what made me a convert.
