GDI series 301 windlass anchor chain jams in gypsy

Hello, I bought a -93 Etap 38i that came with a GDI series 301 windlass and a rusty anchor chain. Problem is that the anchor chain jams all the time and doubles up around the gypsy when weighing the anchor. The windlass does not have a stripper installed as the chain locker is forward of the windlass. The windlass manual only specifies gypsys for 8mm and 10mm chain. There is no markings in the gypsy for any spec. My anchor chain does looks pretty bad so I may have to replace it and try to find a matching chain for my gypsy. Boat is located in Langkawi so local supply is quite limited and most likely have order abroad. How can I can I find out what anchor chain I should buy? Will it ever work properly without a stripper? Could I stil safely use the existing chain? Please see link below for pictures. Any advice will be highly appreciated.
