Fortress anchor, how important are the mud palms?
I just picked up a used oversized Fortress as a possible storm anchor. Did not come with the mud palms. They seem to be available, but I wonder if anyone actually uses them. To regular Fortress users, are they important enough to buy a set if yours were absent?

Re: Fortress anchor, how important are the mud palms?
What size anchor?
Mine is a Fortress FX-37 that I initially used w/ the mud palms. Now I use it w/o the mud palms.
My experience is I like the anchor better under the conditions I experience w/o the mud palms.

Fortress Anchors recommends permanently installing the Mud Palms on the anchor and leave them on your anchor at all times.

As Gord says, Fortress recommends always using the mud palms. Brian is a commercial member here (login name is Fortress) and he's told other people to drop him a note if you're missing parts.

Re: Fortress anchor, how important are the mud palms?
I have a Guardian anchor (economical version of Fortress). It was really imposible to anchor with it in our local soft mud ground.
After installing the Fortress mud palms the change was incredible.
It sets everytime and never drags. It is often difficult to bring it up because it was so deeply buried.
I strongly recommend installing the mud palms.
Perhaps in other grounds; sand, rocks, etc they are not so necessary.

Re: Fortress anchor, how important are the mud palms?
This is absolutely true!
After buying my Guardian anchor and learning that it didnt work in soft mud I stored it during a couple of years.
Time after when I had forgotten the issues of my anchor I read about the mud palms. Without great expectations I informed Fortress about the poor behavior of my anchor in mud soils and asked about buying the palms.
They believed me. They only asked about the anchor model .
The answer was the immediate sending of the palms absoluely free of charge!
I am still very grateful for this gesture of goodwill and notable responsability!

Maybe this might be a good place to offer:
New Fortress FX-23; never splashed.

Give Fortress a call. If they don't give you a set of mud palms they won't charge much. They're worth having and Fortress is a first class company to deal with.

Wow! Called them and a new set coming for less than $10 shipping. I am sold on this company. Highly recommended.

I have a FX-37 I have the mud palms and sleep very well on the Mississippi River, never tried it without them, don't see a reason to try.
