I once owned a 35# genuine CQR that had a bent shank. Was already bent when I bought the boat. Worked fine, used it daily for three years.

It may just be the photo, but that anchor looks like the point has been bent down. I don't think we should be able to see the inside bottom of the anchor from that angle. It looks to me like the point was caught under something and the shank was pulled up on very hard.

Hey that's my anchor. Except I think the one I bent was a 45lb. Didn't bend it sideways I bent it time a whale back up the spine. The rhode did nit break and the anchor continued being an anchor.

Actually, the point is fine. There is no other signs of stress anywhere else. As for working, it rarely took us more than one try when setting the anchor except since the bending. We're now onto 2 or 3 tries before feeling it has really set properly...

This stainless anchor bent under very mild conditions, no swell and less than 10 k wind while anchoring overnight in Drakes Bay. I have no idea what caused it.

I would take em to a machine shop and have em pressed back straight, them weld a couple of pieces on the shank to re strengthen it and keep on useing it ! but Im a cheap old guy!

Yep, that's a real mild bend, after they straighten it it will be stronger than it was new with that little bit of work hardening. A couple of light flat bars creating an I beam would be good I suppose... as long as they dont defeat the Delta "self righting".

Won't the I-beam created with the flat bar stop the anchor from burying itself as was intended?

I wouldnt think one that isnt too wide would. A CQR shank is an I beam. However, I have snorkeled a Delta in sand a lot. and you are right... eventually, the whole anchor disappears under the sand!... But the shank being under the sand is not really adding to the holding power I wouldnt think. The problem I see with a CQR is that the shank is so heavy the snchor often lays on it's side immediately. The Delta almost always lands right side up... amazing actually how well it does this. OTOH, The CQR seems to respond to a wind shift better... maybe because it's mode of operation is on it's side and it has the pivoting shank...? What I dont understand i s why, when the Delta lands so nice if you just lower it down... then why doesnt it "stand up" and reset after a big wind shift...? I guess because it's just dragging along on it's side.
