Re: Chain Stopper Install

With materials like wood that are not as strong as the 5200, it's permeant, meaning to me that removal means damaging something, but between two heavy pieces of metal that can take excessive force without damage, it's removable.

In boating, "permanent" is never an accurate word.... hahahaha :>)

Paul--don't get too hung up on the terms: adhesive and permanent. Permanent, in this case, is a relative term.
Not really hungup, just had some bad removal experiences. I don't do mayonnaise either after some bad experiences. My chainstopper is held on by 4 x 10mm bolts. I don't see a need for any adhesive. A little sealant and all is good.

Think of it like red "permanent" Loctite, get the torch out and it's not permanent anymore

Some time ago I posted about Chain Stoppers, there were some good comments, and some pictures. Instead of posting them all again, here is a link to that thread.

Re: Chain Stopper Install

Easier to make a gasket rather than cast one in 5200. I picked up some teflon / kevlar gasket material off Amazon for a good price. Much cheaper than goretex gasket material.

You could also use G10 as a gasket. That would be my recommendation.

If you use 5200 or any soft gasket it will likely creep out or be displaced by bolt torque and alternating chain load. It only has a Shore A hardness of 68.

I also wouldn't use anything like insertion rubber, buna N or similar.

You'll also need to tefgel the bolts through the aluminum block.
