Can Anyone Tell Me Who Made this Windlass ?

It's 110V and the mfg plate is so painted over it's unreadable.

Thought of that of course, but I fear in removing the paint, I'll also removed the printing on the label! Was hoping someone here would recognize it.

Thanks,

Thomas

Since you can't read the painted over plate, you don't have anything to lose by trying to remove the paint. Who knows that old text might stay after the paint is removed.

Try scraping up the edge to see if it is paper/plastic or a metal plaque.

If it is paper/plastic you might try very carefully scraping up the whole thing then trying to read it in a mirror.

If it is metal try scraping paint over to a letter. If the letter is embossed scrape away. If it is printed with ink/paint of some sort you are left with the conundrum of deciding between chemical strippers or scraping.

Luck.
