PO used the CQR from Massachusetts to Florida and the Bahamas which is why I trusted it.
I never met the man as he had passed away before I discovered the boat which btw had no for sale sign on it.

Did the boat call me? BTW I have never painted over the PO's stenciled name lettering

You see when old men are screaming "GET OUTTA MY YARD" I like to enjoy other things.
Let the kids play; your grass will grow back.
Watch the video.
Anchoring ain't that hard comparatively speaking......and some of us can get away with whatever came with our boats

Most of us don't want to get away with anything with anchoring. We want to set an anchor, not need to hunt for a great bottom, and then sleep like a baby even when the wind is double the forecast because we know the boat is damn well going to stay put every time.

Re: Bruce or CQR
Matters not to me which anchor you use ... you're no where near me after all . But for others who may might be reading this thread with the intent of actually learning something, it's quite clear what the better choice is.

Sure.
If you know, then you know.
Many here started on boats later in life whereas I started at around 7 years old steering the boat.
I think this lady started her thing at a similar age. Get it?

Do you still watch a black and white TV? Progress has been made over the years. Remember the days before YouTube?

Re: Bruce or CQR
Thomm. Please tell us u r a space alien. Then all this makes sense. I am 2 weeks into a 4 week cruise with a CQR. It worked great in the FL IACW mud bog. Not so good out here in the islands of bahamas. Week one and i have set a new record dragging; 600 ft. I know this because my investment in anchor alarms far exceeds my investment in anchors. My favorite alarm noise is the car horn. The ****ing cqr i swear will make me deaf before long. This WILL be the last cruise with this iron.
I wish i was kidding or exaggerating.

For sleeping peacefully.. the trick is to never own more than you can afford to lose..
Also why I personally like all chain, acts like an alarm if you drag.. rumble, rumble..

You do understand how the islands are built right?
If not, read James Michener's Hawaii
Geez, are all of you beginners?

Re: Bruce or CQR
Two places where sand exists here. Very deep and very shallow. Any suitable anchor will have to deal with grass. The cqr, with its point, should do better, but it doesnt. It sits on its side.

Yeah, but they still work here....
You have to know your bottom I guess.........
So while "discussing" this same subject in 2017 or so I was on the boat and then this squall came in after i had "tossed" my CQR overboard and went below immediately without even checking it.
I tried to get in closer but it was too shallow.
It was sunny 30 minutes before this.....
coming home later in the trip.....w/simrad autopilot

My 35 pound CQR is primary but in grasses and seaweeds I use my 27 pound Danforth.
CQR on 3 shot of 5/16 chain . Danforth on 27 ft 3/8 chain and 4 shots of 1/2 rode.
