Hey, Monte, you watch out that those moorings are tied to something larger than a house brick.

Re: Best iPad/iPhone Anchor Alarm?
I'm more concerned when I'm off the boat walking around town and my boat starts to drag. I use several different anchor alarm systems on my boat, but I'm looking for something that will alert my i-phone off the boat. Perhaps this app hasn't been made yet. I remember seeing an add once for system like that, anyone know?

If this happens to you often, then you may be better off looking for better anchor gear or better anchoring spots, than a remote anchor alarm.

Re: Best iPad/iPhone Anchor Alarm?
No it has not happened a lot. But it has happened! I would just like to have a system that alert me that either my boat is taking on water or is moving when I'm not on board!

Re: Best iPad/iPhone Anchor Alarm?
1st off I would never anchor where we could not swing 360 deg on a wind or tide shift. 2nd I would only use an app as a secondary, not a primary anchor watch, that is the function of your GPS unit. 3rd due to our aggressive anchor setting technique we bingo the pt where the anchor is dropped, then add 0.01 to our chain is tight position, when the final pull is done. No wak-in up in wind shifts for me.

Re: Best iPad/iPhone Anchor Alarm?
Mark, the apps allow for swinging, you set a radius. We set the drop point as we drop it and as we reverse at 2500 rpm we set the radius. We leave the iPhone on charge next to the berth and it alerts us if we swing outside the radius. We have left it on for weeks at a time and it works flawlessly. The anchor position can be reset if necessary. The pic below shows the anchor 40m from the iPhone. The radius, 50m from the anchor and the google earth image of the anchorage.

Re: Best iPad/iPhone Anchor Alarm?
I have been using iNavx for the past few years. I leave the ipad on and plugged in overnight.
What I like about it is if the alarm goes off I have a chart with my position immediately available.
That's good for me, since i'm never very alert when the alarm goes off and if it's dark it's nice to see your position on a chart. And it does trace a track.
