Bayfield 29 (Newbie) Searching for RI/CT Mooring

Hi All,
...
I just purchased a 1985 Bayfield 29. I'm not experienced and a bit apprehensive. If you have sailing experience with this boat, then I appreciate all advice .
I live in central CT. Long Island Sound has notoriously light winds. I'm searching for a reasonably priced mooring outside the Long Island Sound.
Alternatively, I will consider mooring along the CT coast.
Can you recommend a mooring marina?
...
Thank you and sincerely,
...
Jim Thompson

There are tons of other boats that sail just like a Bayfield 29 so you can get advice from most any of them or anyone with a good old boat

See small cruising list below.....

Lots of good advice on his site also. (from James Baldwin two time circumnavigator)

“Outside the Long Island sound” is a vast area!

You will have to decide where do you want to keep the boat and then start calling the local marinas & yacht clubs, once you start calling you will get more suggestions based on your preferences (location, cost etc.).

With regards to winds in LIS, I am in western LIS which has very light winds during summer but this year it was great, had an amazing sailing season.

Not quite out of LI sound, but suggest North Cove at foot of CT River very protected and yet minutes from some great sailing with great destinations. (actually governmet harbor of refuge)
But would really consider anywhere on Ct. coast of eastern LI sound.
Or, to your request, you can travel to Fishers Is. sound area.

Call or email harbormasters of coastal towns in the areas you consider looking for a mooring. Some towns have horrendous waits for a mooring (Marblehead Harbor 20 years, while towns nearby "only" 2-4 years), others may have immediate openings or allow transfer from current users to new ones.

In Salem Harbor, up until recently, there was no wait time as the soot spewing coal power plant kept many perfectionist owners away. Since it was replaced by a gas fired plant the wait list for a mooring got to be 3-4 years.

Swampscott Harbor (technically part of Nahant Harbor) with its open roadstead has no wait list that I know of. Not the best place to be on a mooring but for a local boater beats a long drive to the next immediately available place.
