Anchors are Amazing !
Not another what type of thread thread......
I was at the new boat the other day and because it seems HUGE I took the loooong walk up to the bow to check out the anchor (I figure the one it has has been holding the boat for 10 years so no super rush to change it).
Is it just me or does everyone agree that anchors are just amazing? I mean look it! Even if over-sized it doesn't weigh all that much. It is only around 12"x18" of surface area and has some light weight looking chain for what it is suppose to do. And after you put it all together it is expected to hold a boat that weighs around 400 times more than it in place while the wind and waves beat on it! While laying on some sand or mud!
This is just amazing!!!!

Re: Anchors are Amazing!
You must not have a "new generation" anchor. I hear they have a glowing halo that hovers above them due to their holy origin.

Don,
I remember a few days in the '70's after smoking something that I had thoughts like that. I also had the munchies.

You remember the 70's
But really you guys don't think a 50 pound peice of metal with a surface area of just over 1 square foot, holding a 20,000 pound boat against the wind and waves is amazing?
Maybe we really get big anchors is so it looks more reasonable.

Re: Anchors are Amazing!
A worthwhile topic for our reflection.
As cruisers, we define ourselves by what we do afloat. And yet our most passionate discussions/arguments/debates are about anchors/rodes/anchoring technique. Why is this?
The anchor connects the cruiser, the person afloat, to the Earth.
It's that simple.
And being connected to the Earth is a very good thing.

Puuuuuuuuuffffffffffffff. ............................Whoooooooooooooosh.
Yeah. man. Amazing. Really freaking amazing.
Far out man.
It's amazing how frickin amazing they are.
I love them man.
I have a big enough Danforth, man, (no complaints) and a Fortress, a 30# collapsible Fisherman/Herrschoff, and at least 4 smaller DF copies, plus a stainless grappel hook.
But I'm not happy man.
I want a Rockna.
And I want it bad.
...
Yeah man, popcorn would be great.
