Anchoring with an electric windlass

I've never tried free fall, I know it's possible, but why when I can stand there and just push the "down" button instead of carrying the bar forward to release the clutch and the reset the clutch after the anchor hits bottom?
Even then, don't you guys have to power down to get the rest of the chain out? If I'm in ten feet of water including bow height, I usually let out 50' of chain, will the weight of ten feet of chain pull chain up and out of the locker and spin the gypsy?
