Ft. Lauderdale and
Miami Beach know their bylaws do not comply with state law but they enforce them through intimidation. For the past couple of years anyone anchoring in Lake Sylvia or off
Miami Beach gets a visit from the
marine police. In Marco Island one brave soul challenged them and won, unfortunately most cruisers do not have the luxury of time or funds to do so. We are passing through so we keep going. Some have a copy of the state legislation and have shown it to the
marine police and have received the answer that they know of the legislation but are instructed to enforce the local by laws. The Miami Beach police are much nicer about it than the Ft. Lauderdale cops. I don't think either force really wants to hassle cruisers but they take their instruction from the politicians who take their instruction from wealthy property owners.
