Re: Anchoring etiquette questions...

If you see the flag of which Montanan posted the picture above, be aware sometimes when it is displayed it means come with your own tipple, it isn't an offer of free alcohol.

Different national groups have different ideas about it. I never knew there were so many different mistakes to make.

Love that word, “tipple.” Sounds like it should be a Newfoundnees term.

Around here, the welcome goes out, and we all arrive with our own “tipple.” Often the second round is provided by the host. It if slides into a serious “large night” then the dinghies are sent back to their home boats for reprovisioning. No one expects the host to be that well stocked.

Suggestion. Bring two bottles. One for your own favored consumption and one as a gift for the host.

[QUOTE=Dockhead;3928265]How many times in your life did you ever regret making a random friendly gesture to a stranger?

I can recall times. Mostly it was because they were in over their heads and suddenly realized it. Now they are scared etc. and needy and you basically feel you need to keep helping them.

Well, that's not a "gesture" like a cookie, that's something different.

But since you mentioned it -- I think it's right to make time to patiently help people who are "in over their heads" and "afraid". In my opinion, it's kind of a burden and obligation of being more experienced and prepared and having more skills. And having more tools and parts on board.

And I make it a point not to expect gratitude for this kind of help (in order not to be disappointed).

Re: Anchoring etiquette questions...

I don't disagree and see no reason for additional debate
