Well, that's not a "gesture" like a cookie, that's something different.
But since you mentioned it -- I think it's right to make time to patiently help people who are "in over their heads" and "afraid". In my opinion, it's kind of a burden and obligation of being more experienced and prepared and having more skills. And having more tools and parts on board.
And I make it a point not to expect gratitude for this kind of help (in order not to be disappointed).
