My
anchor winch started running slow when under load. I have stripped it down and found
gearbox bearings were in bad shape and replaced them. Inspected
motor at the same time and
brushes and commutator looked in good condition. Reassembled but still have speed of
winch dropping when under load.
Question now is what is likely cause? Is it likely to be just a brush issue like one brush not contacting or is it possibly a failed winding issue in the
motor? Either way I need to strip it down again. Currently cruising in
Tonga so limited resources but I do have a spare set of
brushes on board but no springs if it is a broken spring although this was not apparent when I originally stripped the winch
