FX-37, FX-23 & FX16 stern, I've not found the need for anything else while anchoring on the Mississippi river.

Re: Anchor Poll

The poll results are not what they seem, because Bruce and Spade were not present on the list of choices for a significant portion of the votes cast.
Some of the "Other" votes will accordingly belong in one of these categories

Re: Anchor Poll

Well I agree with Don. Looking at the other threads, CQRs should be at the bottom of the ocean without a chain attachment. I haven't seen that many on the other threads ranting and defending their CQRs

just sayin'

Re: Anchor Poll

Primary: 60 pound Manson Supreme on 120 feet chain and 60 feet line
Secondary: 44 pound Bruce on 30 feet chain and 120 feet line
Storm: Fortess FX-125

Also another Fortess FX-125 and a Danforth 90H that I either use to moor with or keep nearby.

We have a 60 pound CQR for sale if anyone lives in New York or New England.

Regards,
Brad

Hi, I will measure the diy anchor (as I fabricated two and have the second in the yard) and will try to send a photo.
To expand my boats tackle we carry a Bruce next to the bugel, on the stemhead,
a danforth and a fisherman stowed inside. The fishermans have never been used and feel it would be difficult to retrieve on board. Cheers....

A pic of the bugel anchor is attached. Dimensions have been chalked (mm) on the anchor. 350mm wide, the spade is chamfered from tip to aid initial digging in. The sister anchor is on my 17 tonne steel spray which has given us many good nights of sleep. On anchor in a tidel river the anchor seemed to reset very quickly. Hope this helps....vari

Re: Anchor Poll

Hi vari

Nice job. What quality of metal did you use?

If nobody else has done it yet, I'd like to welcome you here.

based on threads yu would expect anchors like the CQRs to be be in history books only
At K-dock in my marina, at least 80 percent of anchors visible on boats are CQRs, Bruce/claw, and Danforth. On boats over 40 feet LOA, the overwhelmingly-dominant anchor is the CQR.

Looking at anchors in marinas tend to show what anchors boats that spend lots of time time in marinas use.
Many boats seek the shelter of marinas in bad weather, nothing wrong with that, but these people are less likely to invest in good anchoring gear.

The condition of the substrate and expected conditions also makes an significant differance. In good holding in begnin conditions all anchors do well.
If you want to know what anchors work well you need to select a different subset of boats.
