I think you answered your own question.
Another reason could be that it is the ugliest anchor I have ever seen.
Even your mum would say that.

Re: Anchor Poll
CQR primary, with a Bruce secondary- because the boat came with them. It's not an issue for me at the moment as I'm mostly day sailing. I would switch to a new generation anchor before a big cruise, & probably sell the CQR.

Re: Anchor Poll
Much discussion here touches on the reset capabilities of anchors, that was one of the strong reasons for me choosing a SARCA excel. Its convex design means that even in heavy mud it doesnt scoop up the bottom. Comes up reasonably clean - what that means is that if it needs to reset, it isnt caked with junk, and thus has a much better chance of resetting compared to a concave anchor design which may be limited by the bottom material that is captured in the scoop.
That - its outright strength, no roll bar (means it fits my roller system better) and its top holding power are all the reasons I went with it as a primary and I have not been disappointed. Its twice the anchor my previous MANSON plough was. My second anchor is a Guardian (cheaper version of fortress but still genuine fortress company product).
I recommend the excel to all my clients, so far none have reported any disappointment to me.
And for the record - I have no commercial connection with SARCA and paid full price for my anchor.

I have watched anchors reset many times diving.
Modern anchors don't break out. They remain set and buried. They shuffle around to the the new orientation.
There is no "clogging effect", or if you like the fluke is permanently clogged because its buried.
One big advantage of the modern anchors ( which are concave) is that they adjust to a new wind direction very reliably, better than the previous generation of convex blade anchors.
I have not tried the Excel and maybe it adjusts to a new wind direction better than the MS, spade, and Rocna, but recent experience tells us that concave blade anchors with or without roll bars reset much better than the older generation anchors that are convex with no roll bar. So there is nothing, from the overall design that sugest the Excel will be better, in fact anchor design history suggests the opposite.
Time will tell, as the multitude of new designs are used more extensively.

We have tried really small ones - and they have been a complete waste of time. In rock I think they would be a liability, get them stuck and you could lose them (and some chain) - this is why people use anchors with tripping slots, Manson Supreme and Anchor Right Super SARCA. Large fishermens are said to find favour in really heavy weed - but most cruisers would avoid such places (they are usually well documented), or use their fishfinder to find sand patches into which to anchor conventionally. Modern anchors of 15kg and greater (or equivalent) Fortress, Supreme, Excel, Spade can cope quite well even with 'medium' weed - its kelp that is the killer. Fishermens have an appalling holding capacity and I would think merit a 24hour human anchor watch and at weights that will work will be a real hassle to get from the forepeak, onto a chain and over the bow (ensure you have good health cover). My personal view would be to deploy them as garden ornaments, surrounded by a ring of retired CQR's - or maybe converted into the legs of a coffee table - at least then they would be useful (and would not engender a false sense of security that you have ground tackle for every occassion).

I second that about the CQRs. Dragged the damm things on their side around half the planet !

Re: Anchor Poll
Cqr on all chain with a fisherman on chain and rope for weed/rock and regularly in sand for lunch or fishing. Fisherman is a bit lighter and easier to retrieve.
Never tested either in heavy weather
