Re: 5/16 HT or 3/8 HT Chain?

IIRC the last full barrel I bought was 550'.

Re: 5/16 HT or 3/8 HT Chain?

Half drum is actually what it's called I think, and I think it's 275', and again I think you get a price break buying it in an already packaged amount as opposed to having a custom cut length.
I'd lie if I told you what it weighed, 250- 300 lbs? I pitched the barrel out of the back of the truck and drug the chain to the boat going around a piling and let the windlass load it into the boat, I wan't going to try to carry that.
It did drop the bow some I'm sure, but no more than a single average man standing on the bow sprit does, and that is just not noticeable.

Oh, 3/8" half drum will be shorter, 200' I think

I assume weight of 275' of 5/16 is about the same as 200' of 3/8" ?
Remember I'm 5/16, but with your heavier anchor and heavier boat, I wouldn't go with 5/16", I'd go with Rocna's recommendation, They should know better than most I would think.

Thanks again.
Half a barrel of 5/16" is 275'. And such info on any chain size is commonly available on all chain vendor's website's. But generally it equates to about 300lbs of chain, regardless of the chain size. So, the larger the chain, the less, length wise, per barrel or half barrel.
