What’s it worth?

I’ll start by saying I already know it’s worth what someone will pay, so I don’t need that advice

I have a 2010 Tohatsu 4 stroke 6 hp outboard which I am planning to replace with a new Yamaha 15 2 stroke. The outboard starts first time every time and is in mechanically and cosmetically “good” condition. It will be sold with good plastic tank and hose. Any idea what a fair asking price would be in South Florida?

I would search Craigslist/eBay for where I plan to sell it. That's the market price.

You can get between $600 and $1200 running in a bucket. The problem is that’s a lot of space between those numbers. At $600 it will be gone inside a week, if not a day. At $1200 you might wait a year. Any more than that and people can buy new, with financing and service agreements and the like. Pick your spot in between, and give yourself at least $100 room to play with, because people like to lowball and feel like they got a deal. I meet people at a nearby gas station to size them up first, and then if they seem legit I have them follow me to my backyard. I’ve sold a lot of motors this way.

Really? The local place has them for sale for $1450. A 9-year old motor is through (not knowing the exact history) about 2/3 of its low maintenance, useful life. At MOST it is worth $500, and most probably less than that. Unless you find someone that is either ignorant or too short on money to buy new. I've bought same age 9.0 Yamaha high thrust (a MUCH more expensive motor) for $500.

I'd say $600-750 in Florida for a good condition 6hp outboard. Expect a lot of low ball offers... Florida's craigslist is horrible. I bought and sold a few while I was in the Stuart area and never had a great experience on either side of the deal.
