Years ago my first
boat came with an old Achilles dink and an even older (early-mid 60s) Archimede 3.9 by
Penta. Probably made even before
Volvo bought out
Penta.
Funny enough it worked ok just looked too ancient to run. Prior to selling that
boat I obtained also an older (early 90s) a 9.9
Evinrude which constantly gave me trouble. But my buyer given the choice of the motors of course selected the
Evinrude. Ha-ha-ha. And I still have that 3.9 in a friend's shed.
Anyway, the gist of my story = better your
motor looks like an old egg beater, the older the better, than a shiny newish model, even if from alibaba. Most folk, including thieves, go for the shiny blink and forego the beat up oldies.
