Village Marine Little Wonder desalinator

the operating temperature correction on pages 10 / 11 of the operators manual appear to contradict each other.
Most desalinator outputs increase with increase of temperature, however Village Marine say the opposite.
How should temperature effecting output, is the info in the manual incorrect?
Your educated assistance would be very much appreciated.

Re: Village Marine Little Wonder desalinator

That table is not showing the output of the watermaker with different temperatures - it is showing the temperature correction factor that should be applied to the reading on the gauge. So in that use, the table would show numbers decreasing with increasing temp (the smaller the correction factor, the higher the actual flow).

The best way to measure output at different temperatures is with a measuring cup and a stopwatch. Time how much to fill a measured volume and do the calculation into gal/hr.

Re: Village Marine Little Wonder desalinator

Thank you, Mark. So what should the claimed output be at 30 deg. C?
I calculate 4.7 GPH, which means the output decreases with increased temperature.
However on the previous page of the Manual they claim output is increasing with temperature?

Re: Village Marine Little Wonder desalinator

I think where you are getting caught is that these correction tables are for calculating what the output would be at the standard conditions (25C) when operating outside those conditions. It isn't for determining actual flow outside those conditions. Actual flow is shown by the meter or by a timed volume measurement.

For example, at 30C the output will be higher than expected at 25C. To determine what the output would be at 25C, you multiply the output you see at 30C by 0.83.

The purpose of these tables is to determine if the output is within the manufacturer specs. It is unlikely that one would always be at the precise salinity and temperature that the specs are based upon. So the manufacturer provides correction tables for temp, which is the larger and more easily measured variable.

If at 30C, the actual output multiplied by 0.83 falls below the manufacture's spec at 25C, then you may have a problem in the system.
