Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

I have an OC. Its good. But a little too pretty.
Why does no one sell tinnies like in Oz. Add a foam bumper. Done.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

I really like the hullshape in the ASTender. The OC tender has many great attributes and original ideas and I think the ASTender builds on those ideas. Interesting to see a comparison. The only footage Ive seen on the net is some guys who bought a super light tender and filled it full of excess weight in the form of a console extra large motor etc. Hardly in keeping with the concept of a simple light tender but each to his own.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

If you go to their website you can download a pdf of their catalogue, they have two models, the Beach and the Coast. The Beach is what is comparable to the OC tender. All I could find on youtube was a couple of short promo clips, but it looks pretty good. It seems to have a flat stern section, but a deeper V in the bow than the OC tender. The Coast is the center console model.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

Most of the pros and cons have been covered. For me if you never deflate to store then simple and solid. I have a stich and glue nesting tender. My mother ship is small so that or a full inflatable not a rib. Rib have some good points, although many brands are quite heavy.

One solid option that gets over looked is the Trinka 12 by Johansen in Vero Beach. The smaller Trinkas are well known. The 12 is a whole other thing. Looks classic. Designed by Bruce Kirby that designed the Laser. They really sail. They are beamy and support a payload. They self bail.

I'm pretty sure the Trinka is no longer made. Unless someone stepped in to take over the business, the owners retired. At least that's the last I knew.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

The Trinka is a nice little sailboat and it would be a blast to have a tender that could also sail. We actually cruised with a family for a time and they had both a rib and second sailing tender which was a lot of fun. The problem with the trinka and most other sailing dinghies as far as I know is that they are displacement hills that can't get up on plane. The Trinka 12 may be able to handle a four horsepower at the most.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

Hi all!
We just purchased an AST 280 Beach, they're similar to the OC's but as they're made in Europe I don't have to go through the whole shipping thing

We want to store her on the front deck when sailing. We're just worried that this will either scratch the deck or scratch the tender. Does anyone with an OC Tender (or AST for that matter) have some great recommendation for this please?

Stability when boarding the OC tender. Anyone willing to share firsthand experience regarding boarding from docks or sterns?

Not much of a problem, but not quite as stable as a inflatable. You would also notice the OC is more likely to list when the loading is not perfect, such as you sitting up on the side deck when operating it alone. I weigh 215 and can stand on the side deck.

Easy step in. Front hatch cover makes forward boarding easy.

Re: Solid Tenders - OC Tenders

Saw this yesterday. Looks interesting. But expensive like the OC and the AST.

Here’s a link to the AST: https://ast-yachts.com/beach-340/

They probably deserve their own thread as well… but I don’t have time this morning.

Thanks. If you can stand on a gunwale, that’s speaks to the initial stability. I grew up with rolly polly dinghies but I have more people to consider now.
