Register a dinghy with no paperwork in California?

Anyone gone through the process of registering a dinghy from a private sale when it didn't come with any paperwork? It's an older one and has no serial, title or registration.

Every state has a process for this. I suspect California has a website on boat titling that will walk you through how to do this. In most cases, someone will want to inspect the boat.

I did an old Achilles (1982) at the local CA DMV just using it's HIN and a statement of fact declaring it's value as less than $200. Find a sympathetic clerk and smile alot.
