Platt Montfort's Westport 8 Geodesic Dinghy

Hi Folks,

I picked up a used Westport 8 Geodesic Dinghy a year ago. I love the boat. It is light, tough and rows straight and true with one person aboard.

The outer covering is now failing. it appears to be a hard clear varnish like material on top of a latex paint on top of the dacron. The coverings are sloughing off in areas and in others it is still intact. I spoke with "someone", maybe Bette at Montfort Associates. She suggested I needed to fully remove the dacron, refinish the wood and recover with new dacron.

Does anyone out there have experience with Platt Montfort's designs and can provide insight?

Thanks,

Tom
