Plans for the 6'6" Dinghy by A. Mason

I'm looking for plans for a small dinghy, preferably like the 6' 6" A Mason designed "Pootzy". Does any one know how to go about acquiring these, I've tried "The Yacht Design Library of A Mason" but have no luck. Or does any one know of any other small stitch and glue type plans for a dinghy under 7'.

Not sure if they have what you're looking for ,but try googling "Svensons free boat plans" for dozens of plans re-printed from old popular mechanics magazines.

6'6" is getting close to being too small, lacking in load capacity and unstable to be practicable. Unless you just have to have a dinghy that big for storage I'd suggest going slightly bigger and aiming for light weight.

I'd suggest looking at the Dixi Dinghy, D5 and the Roberts Tender.

If you really want something shorter you could ask the designers if the bow could be trimmed back to give a more pronounced pram.

Dudley Dix has an interesting page on stitch and glue.

Will look into the Dudley. Planning a trip around Vancouver Island this summer. Taking an 8' inflatable and would also like to take a small pram style dinghy for backup and stow on deck (along with the inflatable) as well.

I agree with this totally. My first cruise was with an 8' Dyer Dhow. Great quality, beamy and stable little dingy with good freeboard. It was downright dangerous at times though with 2 people. prepare to bail! If you have storage issues, even if you dont like them esthetically, an inflatable, even used one will be a lot more useable. Sorry dont want to rain on your parade but.....

B & B Yacht Design's Mini Paw. Meets your requirements. You might also consider their Two Paw nesting dinghy that will give you a choice of an 8' pram that nests to 4' or the 9' pram that nests to 4'8".

If it's going to be a backup, I would think a nester would be the way to go. It would also provide some fun as a little sailboat.

Yes, it's more for backup and not so much for a main transport to and from shore or dock. The other idea is when at anchor and in calm weather one person can go inshore if the others want to stay onboard, and their not left without transportation. I saw a boat in port Angeles where the owner cut the nose off a 8' walker bay and made a nester out of that (did a clean job of it). The other problem is carrying two (one inflatable and one hard) dinghy's on deck on a 32' boat, a nesting dinghy might be the way to go. You guys keep feeding me info. You might consider a nesting dinghy. I just googled "nesting dinghy kits" and got a whole page of hits.

Starbuck, also liked what I saw on the nesting dinghy's have already sent for plans of two nesters, I guess the one advantage to a nester is overall size in a compact space!
